TH Real Estate expands Asia-Pacific team with senior hire

TH Real Estate continues its expansion into Asia-Pacific with the appointment of Shusaku (Shu) Watanabe, as Director of Capital Transactions, Asia.

Shu, who will be based in TH Real Estate’s Singapore office, will report to Chris Reilly, Managing Director, Asia-Pacific. He joins from JP Morgan Asset Management Pte Ltd’s Singapore office where he was Fund Manager for its Tokyo Recovery Fund, a private real estate fund invested into the Tokyo office sector. Shu was responsible for marketing, structuring and closing of the fund, including equity and co-investment tranches. The successful deployment of the capital, by sourcing and evaluation of suitable investments, led to a successful exit of the Fund in 2015.

At TH Real Estate, Shu will lead a team in evaluating, structuring and originating acquisitions across the Asia region, supporting the business in its aspirations to deploy significant capital into the region.

Previous roles include fund manager at Aviva Investors, Vice President, Investment Banking  for  Macquarie Capital Securities (Japan) Ltd., in Tokyo, and Associate, Securitization Products Group at  Morgan Stanley Japan Securities Co., Ltd., also in Tokyo. Shu started his career with Itochu Corporation, a Japanese conglomerate, after graduating from Cornell University, NY, USA in 1998, with a BS degree in Aerospace Engineering. 

Shu’s hire follows other recent appointments including Harry Tan, Head of Research, Asia Pacific, and Carsten Kebbedies as Head of Business Development, Asia-Pacific, both located in Singapore, in addition to William Keaveney, Senior Analyst, who is based in TH Real Estate’s Sydney office.
